Dark Sky Viewing - 1st Option
Join us for beautiful dark sky viewing at Donnington Airfield, Woodstock - 20 mins from Stuart.
All members and non members are welcome, please read on for a list of things to remember:
Please Try to Get There before Dark
When you arrive you will be driving down a long airstrip at a slow pace and if you get there after dark you will feel the need to have your headlights on all the way. As you can imagine this blinds all the nocturnals looking through telescopes at the end of the runway.
Lights at the Viewing Area
You view the stars better when your eyes adjust to the dark but you don't want to be bumping into things so preserve you night vision and invest in an astronomy torch that emits red light.
Pricing & Please Bring Cash
The small fee goes to the land owner who is kindly letting the Astronomy Club use such a great location, $5 (p/person) for non-members & $2.00 (p/person) for members.
If you want you can...
- bring a jumper in winter
- bring bug spray
- there are no toilets on site so please go be fore you come
- bring a snack (take the rubbish you :-)
- bring you enthusiasm
What is the Difference Between 1st & 2nd Option Dates?
With 1st Option dates the moon will still come out but generally later on in the night so you will get a few hours of dark sky viewing in. One the 2nd Option dates there will be little to no moon for a major part of the night, this is better if you want to do stellar photography.
